Photography Usage Rights: Questions Clients Should Ask
Before commissioning photographs, explain where and by whom the images will be used. The assignment agreement should answer those questions clearly.

List the real uses
Identify websites, social accounts, advertising, print, presentations and partner distribution. Personal sharing and a commercial campaign are different briefs. If a designer, agent or affiliated company needs files, mention that before the quote.
Ask about boundaries
Discuss duration, territory, modifications, credit and onward sharing. Confirm whether any participant or location conditions apply. Do not assume that receiving high-resolution files or paying a production fee settles every possible use.
Keep the agreement accessible
Store the usage scope with the approved assets and share it with the team responsible for publication. Ask the provider before extending to a use that was not discussed. Specific rights depend on the agreement and applicable requirements, so resolve important ambiguities directly rather than relying on a generic article.
